"Translating Research into Practice"​
​Dr. Lisa Barnett is a Professor of Physical Activity and Health at Deakin University’s Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN), where she also serves as Associate Head of School (Research) in the School of Health and Social Development. With a career spanning over 15 years in academia, Dr. Barnett is recognized globally as the leading researcher in motor skills (Expertscape) and is a driving force in shaping how we understand, assess, and promote physical literacy across the lifespan.

Her research centers on the measurement and improvement of motor competence and physical literacy through international collaboration and partnerships with industry. Dr. Barnett developed the Pictorial Scale for Perceived Movement Skill Competence in 2016, now used in 37 countries, and in 2019 co-led the creation of the Australian Physical Literacy Definition and Framework. Most recently, she led the development of a pictorial tool to measure children’s physical literacy for the Australian Sports Commission, now requested by researchers from 27 countries across 18 language groups.

Dr. Barnett has previously served as President of the International Motor Development Research Consortium (I-MDRC) and co-lead of the Physical Literacy Special Interest Group within the Asia Pacific Society of Physical Activity. Her contributions have had a transformative impact on the field of motor development, she is a true ambassador for evidence-based approaches to promoting active, healthy lives around the world.
