Dr. Nancy Getchell, University of Delaware (USA)

"Celebrating Leadership in Motor Development"

Dr. Nancy Getchell, Professor of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology at the University of Delaware, is internationally recognized for her three decades of research advancing the science of developmental motor control and coordination. Her work has contributed meaningful insight into brain-behavior relationships in children with and without disabilities, with particular focus on developmental coordination disorder and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

 

A leader in the field of motor development, Dr. Getchell has served as President of the International Motor Development Research Consortium (I-MDRC). She is also a Research Fellow of SHAPE America, a professional member of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity and the International Society of Motor Control, and previously chaired the Motor Development and Learning Academy.

 

Throughout her career, Dr. Getchell has combined scholarship with service to the profession. She is an associate editor for Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport and serves on the editorial boards for both Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy and Frontiers in Psychology. In 2001, she was honored with the Lolas E. Halverson Young Investigator Award in motor development, reflecting her lasting contributions to the field.
